Caged Birds Don't Sing
"You say the plan is not to ground me,
Yet you ask that I be yours alone,
None other’s.
You say no plans to cage me,
You want me for your pet..."
Breaking the culture of silence and finding solace in verses, in poetry, in storytelling because stories matter. Many stories matter.
The Curator of Lived Experiences
Adebimpe Oluwafunmilayo Adeyemi (Fumsymoon) is a curator of lived experiences, a continuing student of the school of life. Fumsymoon’s writing is an extension of her practice which is anchored on amplifying life, living and the many motions of survival that we adopt as humans.
Fumsymoon is a poet, lawyer and editor whose artistic preoccupation intersects art, writing and activism. She writes from the crossing of the influences of her academic and career background and her desire to facilitate the creation of a better world with her words.
Fumsymoon’s poetry is direct and refuses distance. It riles against the culture of silence and the idea that some topics need to be spoken about in hushed tones. Fumsymoon welcomes you to see yourself in the walls of her poems, to speak up, lend a voice, to engage in a fellowship of suffering and a kindredness in shared vulnerabilities.

Sometimes I’m just horny,
An unintended touch,
A welcoming hug,
A look here, a smile there..."
"I know how detachment feels,
It is a badge I wear with pride,
I know how elusiveness feels,
It is the armour I wear under this skin..."

"Symphony of a blackbird is a collection of poems exploring the theme of femininity, identity and the lived experience of women in male dominated and patriarchal societies."
This book offers a glimpse into what it entails to embody femininity in spaces that attempt to suffocate, silence and mutilate and the prevailing of the human spirits inspite of everything that life throws at us.
Other poems in this book cover themes of grief, sexuality, and the similitude of human experiences.
"Symphony of a Black Bird is worth every penny! I had goosebumps reading every poem."
— Damilare Aruleba
"A hauntingly beautiful collection. It feels like reading a diary written in starlight."
— Lawrence Ajayi
"I'm impressed by every poem this book contains"
— Kola Isaac
